Why yoga and meditation are good for our health?

The concept of unity is a central idea encountered in many philosophical currents and religions. In cosmological mythology, many people still believe and believe that they are part of a unity, whether we are speaking in material terms or in metaphysics.

Belief in the idea of unity, that is, everything in the world is interconnected and interdependent, seems to have a beneficial effect on our psyche, since it provides answers to ontological questions. According to a new German survey, those who believe that everyone is united are more satisfied with their lives. This is true regardless of what their religious beliefs are or whether they are atheists... It even - inadvertently - highlights the importance of yoga and meditation for physical and spiritual balance.

The study was published in the journal Psychology of Religion and Spirituality by the American Psychological Association. Lead researcher Dr. Laura Marie Edinger-Sons of the University of Mannheim conducted two studies with about 75,000 people in Germany.

In the first survey, at least 7,000 people answered questions about their sense of unity and life satisfaction. The greater their faith in the unity of the world, the greater the satisfaction they felt from their lives.

Dr. Edinger-Sons repeated the investigation after six weeks to investigate whether the findings had changed over time. The results were about the same, indicating relative stability in the responses. "Obviously, beliefs about unity are more than just a feeling or a mood related to a particular situation. They seem to represent a more general attitude towards life" he said.

Dr. Edinger-Sons then went on to investigate whether the sense of oneness explains life satisfaction even better and religious faith. Faith in secular unity was found to be a better predictor of life satisfaction than religious beliefs.

The head of research said that enhancing the sense of unity in everything can help people feel more fulfilled in their lives than traditional religious beliefs and practices.

Nowadays more and more people are doing various activities to achieve this sense of unity, such as yoga, meditation and more. Recall that the word yoga means unity and comes from the Sanskrit word yogi which means unite.

Speaking in spiritual terms we would say that through yoga we achieve the unification of individual consciousness with universal consciousness. Therefore, we would say the means to bring harmony and balance between the body, mind and emotions.
